The Benefits of Squalane Oil

If it weren’t obvious already, we are huge fans of facial oils! They are packed with effective compounds that heal and hydrate the skin. Many have the ability to balance the skin without clogging the pores and causing outbreaks. Oils also have a very rich history and have been used in many cultures for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians reportedly used oils in cosmetics as early as 4500 B.C.E. And the use of aromatic oils was first recorded in China between 2697-2597 B.C.E!

One of our favorite oils is Squalane. This wonder oil is used in our products and our clients love it. Here is why:

What is Squalane Oil?

Squalane is a hydrocarbon that is naturally found in the skin, as well as in shark liver and a variety of plants and fruits, like sugarcane and olives. When it is found within the skin, squalane (like vitamin E) is a natural source of hydration, protection, and fortification for the skin. It may also provide natural skin protection against high exposure to the sun (Biochimica et Biophysical Acta (BBA)-Lipids and Lipid Metabolism). Unfortunately, the skin’s natural production of squalane decreases over time with age, which means that your skin contains a lot more hydrating squalane when you’re in your teens and twenties than when you’re eighty. So if you have more mature skin, using products that have squalane may help prevent or treat dry skin as you get older.

One of the best things about squalane, and why so many people love it, is that it does not have a greasy feel typically associated with oils. It is also odorless, non-comedogenic, and antibacterial, making it relatively safe for sensitive skin.

Benefits of Squalane Oil

When your skin is hydrated, it is at its healthiest and most radiant. Applying squalane oil topically helps boost hydration in your skin so it appears more radiant and healthy. According to Healthline, “The antioxidants in these oils and creams also fight skin damage and free radicals, which can both accelerate the aging process. According to research, squalane is also a detoxifier. Regular use can also boost collagen production, resulting in firmer skin.”

For Acne: If your skin is oily and prone to breakouts, squalane is the face oil you want to use. It is safe for all skin types and is an excellent alternative if you have tried using oils in the past but have found them to be too heavy or greasy on your skin. As we mentioned earlier, squalane is lightweight and non-comedogenic, so it will not clog your pores. According to one study, squalane has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce redness and swelling.

For Eczema: If you have eczema then squalane is a great oil for you as it contains anti-inflammatory properties that soothe a variety of inflammatory skin problems. So not only can it help with eczema but also inflammatory acne, psoriasis, dermatitis, and rosacea. It also helps to keep your skin hydrated and boosts your moisture level, which will reduce flare-ups and dry patches.

Bottomline

Because of all the skin benefits associated with this special oil, we included Squalane in our herbal skincare products, and it is one of the many oils we use in our Nourishing Youth Serum. This is an ultra-light and rich serum formulated with a proprietary blend of squalane and other natural oils, aloe juice, antioxidants, and ancient Eastern herbs. It also contains millions of submicron droplets that instantly hydrate and moisturize your skin and is gentle but powerful enough to help with the toughest signs of aging.

Our serums are created under intense pressure. The emulsion size of the Nourishing Youth Serum can be 30,000x smaller than some of other serums on the market. The smaller size means rapid absorption and deeper delivery of nutrients to the skin making it more effective. We don’t use harsh chemicals, specifically harsh surfactants or emulsifiers. These agents are needed to hold the water and oil phases of the serum together. They can be irritating to the skin, causing stinging, redness, and irritation, especially for people with sensitive skin, including those with eczema and rosacea. Using revolutionary technology, we are able to create a serum without any of these irritants. Making our Nourishing Youth Serum more gentle.
